“It has completelly changed the sound of my viola. My sound is much softer, but in the same time so bright, it is trully amazing. I can not compete to the sound of Stradivary or Amati, but I can very get close, all thanks to my magic shoulder rest.
It didn’t just change my sound, it changed my possition too. For years all of my teachers were saying how I lifted my shoulders, how my bow possition was extremly bad. I was experimenting with coussins, sponges, all kinds of shoulder and chin rests. They all gave their results for two weeks, while my enthusiasm lasted, but after that, I was in deep pain. There were times when I could not play my viola more than one hour. For me, it was indeed the time of the great depression. For a young and ambitious musician, the inabillity to play is equal to torture. With slipper, I found out that the problem was not my possition, or possition of my hands, It was just the fact that my neck is longer, and none of the modern or old shoulder rests could not do the trick. Now, almost, after a year of wanting the new slipper, I regret I didn’t get it sooner.
I would like to use this oportunitty to thank to Victoria Voronyansky, who is the kindest persone in the world. She is not only patient and helpfull, she is the Slipper’s true advocat, an amazing persone and gifted violist. Thank you for all your advices and kind words.
Thank you Slipper team, you really helped me to get in touch with my inner viola player. You do care for musicians, and music.” Nena Stevanovic – March 2014

We’ve received some amazing testimonials recently! Here are a few we received over the holidays!

“I decided to try my old shoulder rest just to see what would happen and I can tell you that I will never go back to using my old shoulder rest again. The comfort and feel is so much better and the sound of my viola is even better than I could ever imagine (and it was good before). My viola has a much more beautiful, ringing sound and I can feel the vibrations in my body, which is an added bonus! Thanks so much! I am loving it!”
Karie Norman – January 2014

Karie followed up a few weeks later with us to say this:

“The more I play my viola using the slipper rest the better my viola is sounding. I seriously cannot get over how much better the sound is!! To me it feels and sounds to me like I went out and bought a better viola. I obviously didn’t, but it feels like I have!
I have been playing for 25 years. I am also an Orchestra teacher (for the past 9 years) and I play in various groups around town, and several of the other violists I play with seem to be a little jealous! Thank you for inventing this!” Karie Norman – Late January 2014

“It is incredible! It fits my viola perfectly and sits very comfortably on my shoulder. I have a long neck and have tried many different combinations of shoulder rests/chin rests, but none of them seemed to work for me. The Slipper shoulder rest is just the perfect one; it is very stable, allowing me to keep my viola parallel to the ground without effort, which, in turn, has improved my agility and intonation! I have used it in rehearsals and concerts, and it makes me feel much more confident. A perk is that the rubber feet were designed to grasp the viola firmly, so the shoulder rest won’t slip off the viola so easily as my old shoulder rest did.” Gabriel Polycarpo – December 2013

“I sound pretty damn amazing. My husband actually came in to listen to me and had the biggest smile on his face! Not sure if it is the new angle, or what, but my sound is resonating, and I am sounding pretty fabulous! The Slipper is definitely making a difference! Thank you for making a wonderful product, for your great customer service, and for making me sound really really good!” Patty Weigelman – December 2013

Victoria Voronyansky, one of our dear friends and strong advocates, has a very talented and promising young viola student, by the name of Michael Flynn, who had a very important audition 3 weeks ago. Because Victoria endorses The Slipper TM, she strongly believes in it’s value and benefits, so she is regularly suggesting that her students and associates try it.  Because Victoria was one of the first pros to “test drive” our most recent new product, The Slipper TM for Viola ‘Artist’ (to be launched to the public on July 1, 2013), she asked Michael to try it on his viola.  She and Michael both were astounded by the improvement in his ability to play and in the improved sound of his instrument.  So Michael asked if there was any way we would make an exception for him to our scheduled launch date of “The Artist” because he was auditioning for the First Chair in The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra that week.  We were very happy to get one in his hands in time for his audition.  Needless to say, Michael got the position and he was kind enough to write the following note to us….

“Mr. Telarico, I am Michael Flynn, after this summer I will be a senior in high school, and I am a student of your product evaluator, Victoria Voronyansky.  I am so thankful to you that you would allow me to try out the slipper rest [The Slipper TM for Viola ‘Artist’]”….

The Slipper rest has created a new viola out of my instrument, improving its depth and clarity by a very noticeable degree.  I recently auditioned for The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, a prestigious organization in my area, on The Slipper rest after only a day of using it.  Before I even had time to become accustomed to the marvelous Slipper rest, I was accepted into the highest level of the organization [PYO].  I am sure The Slipper rest made all the difference, as it was not exactly a perfect audition, but the judges chose my instrument’s sound.  Thank you for saving my instrument and audition Mr. Telarico.  Sincerely, Michael Flynn. “While teaching at the Julian Family Fiddle Camp, I met Fred and was subsequently introduced to The Slipper.  Since I have a particularly tall neck and am also on the skinny side, it has always been difficult to find the correct shoulder rest to fit my needs; I had already tried rests like Kun and Mach, and had settled on a Bon Musica for a while.  When I tried The Slipper, I was quite blown away to find it had, as I believe, the perfect mix of performance, elegance, and design.  I received a lot of compliments about how nice it looked with my violin.  I would certainly recommend that everyone give The Slipper a go.  Thank you very much Fred.”  Avery Merritt – Musician and Teacher – USA April 2013

“I love the design and the look of this [viola] shoulder rest!  Most rests on the market are not aesthetically pleasing, and are made of materials that do nothing for the tone quality of the instrument.  Because of the hardwood used to make The Slipper, and its shape, the tonal quality of the instrument is enhanced, plus because it keeps the instrument’s scroll from tipping down, the bow naturally tends to come closer to the most favorable contact point, and doesn’t have the typical tendency of drifting towards the fingerboard.  My favorite, was playing Bach cello suites with The Slipper.  The resonance and the stability were great!  You have a great product, which is both practical and beautiful, and I look forward to making music with The Slipper shoulder rest!”  Victoria Voronyansky – Master of Music from The Julliard School – USA April 2013

“The Slipper fits good on you because you don’t have to worry about the rest slipping or moving out of place on your violin.  I first tried it out at the Julian Family Fiddle Camp.  I saw it because one of my instructors had one.  It looked very fancy, and when I tried it on, it made me sound better.  It’s more comfortable than my last shoulder rest, and it helps my finger placement.  I believe that every fiddle player should have one because it is comfortable for everybody.”   Nat C., age 11 – Julian Family Fiddle Camp, March 2013

“I just got my Slipper for Christmas and absolutely love it!  It’s like it was custom made for me.  My violin finally feels secure on my shoulder without having to really clamp down on the chin rest.  It also looks great.  The design is simple, yet elegant.”  Diane P. – MA, December 2012

“The Slipper is the most comfortable shoulder rest I have tried!  I have used Bon Musica, Kun Collapsible, and an Everest and none compare with the comfort of The Slipper.  It looks heavy but it is not, it is light.”  Curtis S. – USA, December 2012

“I just received and tried out The Slipper, and it works really well.  The violin stays in place easily without any hands to hold it up.  I think this rest is money very well spent.”  Bob Lundquist – OH, November 2012

“Having just treated myself to a specially commissioned 5 string fiddle, and loving its sound so very much, I was getting increasingly frustrated that my shoulder rest was uncomfortable on it, and also I could not cleanly reach the top string due to the altered angle of the fiddle on my shoulder to accommodate the extra string.  The strings were not pushed closer together as on most 5 strings, but at the proper distance apart, so it made the fingerboard just a tad wider.

I experimented with my collection of shoulder rests, and then did some research online.  And there I found… the perfect shoulder rest!!!  The Slipper Rest.  It has been so thoughtfully and carefully designed to allow angling towards the neck, and is lovely and deep on the chest, so it really “fits”.  It is also very adjustable.  The icing on the cake is its elegant and beautiful appearance and feel.  Each one is handmade, but it definitely doesn’t look “handmade” if you know what I mean!  It is a quality item and a work of art in itself.

Fred and Nick have been swift, professional, and ultra-helpful in all my inquiries, and I thoroughly recommend the product and its makers.  If you need a super-comfortable shoulder rest offering a wonderful security and stability for your violin, then look no further!

Thank you, Fred and Nick, for your great product and your wonderful service!    Kitty Herbert – UK, October 2012

“I’ve had mine for a couple of months. Within 1/2 an hour I had completely forgotten that it was there. I had tried 3 other types before this one. It is FAR more comfortable and as a beginner, it stopped my back pain caused by gripping with my chin too much, and has helped me come a long way with my Vibrato and position changing as I can move my hand with confidence knowing the violin will stay put!  Great product, from a UK user.”  Terry Taylor – UK, September 2012

“In 30 years of playing I had not found a combination of shoulder and chin rests that would allow me to keep my shoulders low and relaxed, or allow me to learn vibrato. I’ve had to support the fiddle mostly with my left hand which has caused tension and has limited how fast I can play.

No shoulder rest has ever actually rested on my chest.  The Slipper makes contact all along my shoulder and chest, and it just takes the weight of my head to hold it in place – no pressure!  The tilt and angles of The Slipper seem very close to my normal position – so it all feels quite natural to me.  I feel that my left shoulder is totally free to move – I now don’t feel restricted in my movement.

I have had a hard time learning the muscle memory needed for really good intonation because my fiddle was never consistently in the same place on my shoulder.  I can tell I will have to relearn a little bit of that muscle memory, now that The Slipper always keeps my fiddle in the same position.   I am now training myself NOT to hold my fiddle down with pressure from my neck muscles – all I need is the natural weight of my head.  This is a totally new feeling for me. I just needed to rest my head down gently, and The Slipper did the rest.

AND, The Slipper didn’t seem to change the tone of my fiddle the way other shoulder rests do.  Also, I can tuck my fiddle under my arm in rest position without the shoulder rest getting in the way or falling off.   I was also able to fit The Slipper into my slim violin case, after taking out the accessories pouch and I didn’t need to remove the legs, which is great because it’s much easier to leave my settings that way.

Until I got The Slipper, I was resolved to using a rubber band and two stacked kitchen sponges; this was really awkward, and they’d sometimes fly off during a performance!  I think The Slipper may be the perfect solution for me.”  Jessi Stinson – OR, August 2012

“Since 2008 I have been rehabilitating from a severe spine & shoulder injury… I was only able to play 15 to 20 minutes at a time before having to lie down… The Slipper was recommended to me as it was designed much differently than many of the shoulder rests I own or have tried… and with The Slipper I am now able to play for 40 minutes straight without any problem.

The first thing that caught my attention after I removed The Slipper from the packaging was how elegant it looked… when I picked it up I was pleasantly surprised at how light it was… I immediately noticed how the shape hugged my shoulder… I also noticed that I did not need to adjust my neck or back into any awkward positions to keep my violin still.  With The Slipper I am able to focus on my posture, bowing, and pitch instead of adjusting myself and my violin… The Slipper truly feels like it is a part of my violin… it hugs my shoulder without added pressure from my neck…

I would most definitely recommend The Slipper because its ergonomic shape and design help maintain proper position and hold; its elegant appearance matches that of the violin and is a perfect fit for both beginners and professionals… the price may be higher than the average shoulder rest but at $99 it is well worth it for both luxury and functionality of a hand-crafted shoulder rest; in the past I have purchased four shoulder rests and combined paid more than $100 and none of them come close to The Slipper’s comfort, functionality, and appearance.”  Eric J. “I just got The Slipper!  I have to say it’s as amazing as “they” say it is.  It is obviously well crafted and a lot of time was spent on every aspect of it.  It is amazingly strong, comfortable, and beautiful.  It compliments a violin much better than a $30 plastic rest.  I broke my neck and this is the only shoulder rest that allows me to play the violin without straining my neck at all.  The fact that I can now play with no pain and have the violin sit in the same spot consistently is amazing!  I love it!  It’s a work of art just like my violin.  A must have!!!  Thanks a million Fred!”  Matt Hiesterman – FL, June 2012

“Several of my beginning violin students have found it difficult to hold their instruments comfortably under their chins, and that has impeded their progress in becoming comfortable with the violin…. when I brought one of The Slippers with me to a student’s lesson, everything changed immediately for the student…the student took to the rest instantly and says that it fits her shoulder perfectly…. the violin now always winds up being in the same location which makes it easier for the student to play in tune… and the new shoulder rest is attractive… in addition, The Slipper can be adjusted to fit violins of various widths, there are several choices of holes to screw the feet into which holds the rest onto the violin, consequently, the same rest that now works on the student’s 3/4 size instrument will also work on a full-sized violin when she moves up to it in several years.”  Richard Conviser – violin teacher, RichardConviser.com – CA, June 2012

“I’m so glad that I finally found The Slipper!  I’ve tried other shoulder rests but none of them kept my violin in place on my shoulder like this, and it never slips around.  It’s comfortable and it is beautiful on my violin.  Thanks for the quick turnaround!”  Jody Davis – Ca., May 2012

“Very comfortable and it stays in place while I’m playing.  It also takes a ton of stress off my neck while I play.  Great design, thanks!”  Dan Alway – Ca., May 2012

“The Slipper will suit some violinists better than anything else that I know of on the market because of its height and stability.  It is very stable and secure; it’s a beautiful handmade almost work of art shoulder rest.  It’s natural; not a bunch of plastic; feels like you get your money’s worth.”  Pierre Holstein, Fiddlerman.com – FL, May 2012

“I LOVE this rest and won’t use any other!  I’m a beginner and have tried virtually every popular shoulder rest on the market; The Slipper is the only rest I’ve used that keeps my violin in place on my shoulder without me having to hold it in place.  And I love how it looks on my violin as well.”  Fred Telarico – CA, May 2012
